Abstract  Elements and process make oil accumulation known as petroleum system. In this study, basin modeling was used to study the processes of petroleum system in Gaschsaran and Bibi Hakimeh oil fields in south Iran. In this study, burial and thermal history of two wells from Gachsaran and two wells from Bibi Hakimeh were reconstructed. Burial history diagrams of the Gachsaran and Bibi Hakimeh feilds showed maturity levels for the layers involved. The Pabdeh Formation wasn't mature enough for oil generation and the Kazhdumi Formation was in the early stage of oil generation (0.5 to 0.6 Ro%). In this study, two dimensional basin modeling was used to obtain temperature, maturity, saturation and migration sections. The maturity profile showed that the Kazhdumi Formation is in the early stage of oil generation in the anticlines, whereas it is in the peak of oil generation in synclines. Pabdeh and Gurpi formations are immature in anticlines and they are in peak of oil generation in synclinals. Most of hydrocarbon saturated areas occur in the anticlines. Most part of generated hydrocarbon from Kazhdumi was in liquid phase. After generation, the hydrocarbon was migrated from the Kazhdumi Formation through the Ilam and Sarvak formations toward anticlines where the oil saturation and the length of oil column increased so that some of the hydrocarbons migrated further and crossed the Pabdeh and Gurpi and reached the Asmari Formation. Also, some hydrocarbons were generated from the Pabdeh Formation in the synclines and migrated into the Asmari Formation toward the anticlines.   Â
